Guten Tag... and welcome to Berlin, a place that has many a story to tell. From the former division of East and West to the fall of the wall that became a symbol of unity, this vibrant city has so much to offer for everyone.

There are numerous places in Belin that are a must see. From East Side Gallery to Soviet Memorial Tiergarten and the iconic Brandenburg Gates, each place will draw you in and keep you enthralled with all its history.

If you're a bit of a history buff like myself, Berlin is the place to satisfy your thirst for that. I took the opportunity to go on a 2 hour walking tour of this city that focused on WW2 and Germany's turbulent past and it was fabulous!! The tour covered such sites as Brandenburg Gates, Reichstag Building, Victory Column, Holocaust Memorial, Fuhrerbunker and Checkpoint Charlie to name just a few. I used Viator to book this tour www.viator.com If you're hungry for more and don't mind a little trip out to the "burbs" then Museum Berlin Karlshorst, a representation of the Germany-Soviet War is well worth the visit, plus it's free. www.museum-karlshorst.de

If you are looking for some of the best views of Berlin from above, then Berliner Fernsehturm is a must. Located in Alexanderplatz, it stands with a height of 368 metres and offers 360-degree views of the city. It offers a viewing tower with an observation deck including a bar and a rotating restaurant. Built between 1965 and 1969 by the government of the German Democratic Republic, it served as both a functional broadcasting facility and a symbol of communist power. www.tv-turm.de/en

Of course, what about those European Christmas markets!! Honestly, probably my main reason as to why I travelled halfway across the world and believe me they did not disappoint. For an Aussie girl, I literally walked in and was like "wow". Felt like a kid in a candy store I was that excited!! With the aroma of mulled wine (gluhwine), delicious treats and handmade crafts, the markets offer a unique mix of tradition, shopping and entertainment which creates a magical atmosphere for the holiday season. Just make sure you have plenty of room in your luggage for all those goodies you will be tempted to buy.

I completely absorbed myself in the culture of this city. From famous landmarks to the local cuisine (currywurst and pommes frites for the win!) and everything in between. This trip was a long time coming and the moment I stepped out onto the city streets, I fell in love with Berlin instantly, its deep history, its architecture and its ability to captivate you in a way not many other cities can.

Berlin, you are a colourful existence that does not know the word "boredom" Till we meet again, Danke Schon.
